So I have had a few conversations with men about natural hair. In most cases I was impressed by their feedback...but you know there is ALWAYS that one. LOL.
A friend from Washington DC, tells me that he would only date a women with natural hair. That it shows she is happy with who she is and is not afraid to show it. His girlfriend is natural and has been for awhile and if I am not mistaken, the woman prior to her was natural as well.
My cousin who is soooo "pro natural" said that he is ready to loc his daughters (3 princesses ages 1-3). He is also loc'd up (dreadlocks) and his wife is natural as well. He has addressed that "It is more than hair, it is your crown" and that it should be taken serious. Most natural women state that being natural attracts a different type of guy.
Then...there was one gentleman that I met from New Orleans, and he informed me that he prefers women with weaves, fake boobies, and fake butts. (deep sigh) Now, that may be a few men's "preference" but I have never known a guy to come out and just say it. I did respect his honesty, but also informed him that his "shallow was showing". He then tried to save himself by stating that the women were natural under their weaves. Now this I can accept, because as women of color we have a ton of options when it comes to our hair. We can rock curls down to our backs one week, and then get funky with a 27 piece for a shorter look the next, and by months end, have a flat iron.
I know a lot of women are skeptical about doing a BC (big chop) because of how they may be viewed by others. But trust me, your confidence will dominate over the length of your hair. If there is a guy that won't approach you due to your hair...then let him keep walking. The good thing about being natural is that you can change up your style and yet be true to who you are. I think for most men it is the excitement of seeing their lady in various ways and seeing her personality out shine her overly oil sheen'd bangs ;-)
