-Why did you decide to go natural?
>I got tired of doing my hair. I was putting heat on it every day in order to straighten it, spraying tons of oil sheen and still being frustrated at the end of the day. I had a few friends that started their journey before me, two went with dreads and two have fros. This was helpful when it came to trying to get an idea of what direction to go with products. The two friends with dreads were the ones that lived in the same city, so other than mental support and the "ohh girl that is cute" comment, there were limits on what they could help me with. I thought my hair was healthy when I was getting relaxers, I didn't really have breakage, it was shiny and it was "growing". HOWEVER, my scalp was always dry and it seemed that my hair would only grow to a certain length and then stopped. I wanted something different and that was going to be healthy and with low maintenance.

-What was some of the feedback you got once you informed friends/family about your decision to go natural?
>I had a few guys tell me that they didn't think I was going to look right, but other than that I had a lot of support. Ignorance is alive and healthy as ever, so there are always going to be people with a random comment here and there, but it's never made me regret my decision. My mom even "attempted" to go natural, but it just wasn't her time, I can however, seeing her re-thinking that decision.

-What do you love most about being or going natural?
>OMG where do I start! I love the freedom of washing my hair and just going. I love how my hair feels, I look how it looks, I love the reaction I get and the conversations I have with other naturals. It has truly been a life changing experience and I'm loving every minute. To go from getting relaxers every 6-8 weeks to letting your hair roam free is amazing. I never knew my texture until I went natural, and to think I use to pay big bucks for a straw set for my hair to look like it does naturally. In going natural it led to me starting the Kinky Girls organization, I have met some incredible women whom I may never met had I not been natural.

-What are your favorite products for your natural hair?
>I love Giovanni products, Herbal Essence Totally Twisted/Hello Hydration, my natural oil mix (pure olive oil, shea butter, jojoba oil, and coconut oil) I oil my scalp with this about once a week.
