How to save your hair right NOW!!!

From Maneandchic.com

~Invest in a satin/silk pillowcases. If you're still sleeping on cotton, your hair won't reach it's full potential. Also get a satin bonnet or silk scarf to sleep in and sleep in it every night. Do both, that way your hair is fully protected.

~For extra protection of your ends tie them up in a shower cap or sandwich bag at night, this is called the baggy method and when you are consistent you will notice drastic improvements in length retention. If you don't care about length this is still a great option to maintain thicker healthier ends.

~Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize. A little bit goes a long way. Most of the breakage in curly hair is caused by dryness. Never ever let your hair get dry. If it's dry, it's time to wash and do deep conditioning treatment for at least an hour with heat or overnight. Find an amazing natural leave in conditioner, get a travel size to carry in your purse to moisturize on the go.

~Deep condition weekly with high quality natural deep conditioners. Stay away from conditioners that contain mineral oil and other petrochemicals. They offer nothing nutritive to your hair and can also dry the hair out once their temporary effects wear off.

~Trim split ends. You do not have to trim your hair every 4-6 weeks unless you are trying to maintain a hair cut. If you want to retain length, just search for and cut off split or splitting ends. Now, if you like super blunt perfect ends you should get trimmed at least every 6 weeks. If you're just starting out with conscious hair care, consider getting a professional trim to start you off in the right direction. When I first started my "hair journey" I chopped my hair to neck length and was able to go without a professional trim for 2 years without incident.

~Learn the benefits of pre-cleansing with oils. I like to saturate my hair with deep conditioner, sit under a conditioning cap and after 15 minutes I apply more conditioner and an oil and sit for another 30 minutes under a conditioner cap or sometimes I leave it on overnight and wash it out in the morning.

~Massage your scalp! It's relaxing and it stimulates the scalp. It's kind of like feeding your scalp especially if you use an herbal oil.

~Check the ingredients before you buy a hair product. Personally, I don't buy anything from the "Ethnic" hair section at a drug store. Use high quality professional products with good ingredients or high quality natural products.

~Be on the look for other women who have hair that you admire. Ask them who their stylist is and if they do their own hair ask them what they use. What works for them may or may not work for you, but it's a great place to start. Make sure to ask women who have a similar texture to you. Chances are higher that what worked for them might work for you if you have similar textures rather than someone who has a complete opposite texture or density.

~Love your hair! Don't pull on it. Stop damaging it with excessive heat and overprocessing. Put down the fine tooth combs and brushes. Invest in a seamless comb, a Jilbere shower comb and a Denman. Learn to work with your texture instead of against it. Try limiting your use of heat to style. After harsh chemicals, heat damage is the second most cause of hair loss and breakage.
